Solo in the Desert Mountains
My son and I head out with our new setup into the desert mountains outside of Phoenix to take on a trail we've tried and failed to do before. Hopefully this time it goes better!

How Much Did My OVERLAND TUNDRA Cost?
Whats up with this guys accent ... is he from England or Kentucky ?
We enjoy watching your videos. Watching for over a year now. Finally, setup UA-cam account to subscribe to some of our channels we watch. I'm from KY myself but do live in another state now. Went out west overlanding (or trying to) broke down in NV but it was fun. Your little guy is growing up FAST. Blink your eyes and graduation is around the corner.
I am Musa BSc From Bangladesh in South East Asia okay
Like others, I don't disagree. I own both as well, but I have to say you're comparing a Jeep Rubicon or Sahara to all Jeeps. I have the Sport, which is the 2.0, and I get 21 miles on the highway. I'm really heavy with a Gobi rack, an awning, a shower ensuite, steel bumpers, side steps, and other stuff. Since my Jeep is a daily driver, I feel like it's better than my 4Runner. I also have more storage room in my JL than my 4Runner. Overall, to me, they are both dependable vehicles that anyone should consider getting. #JeepLife #4RunnerLife #OffRoadAdventure
Great video.
Naw, 37s are just fine bro....
How do you add zones
Drove up from south Georgia to the Overland Adventure Summit and had a blast. Saw some old friends and made some new ones. One observation, it appeared Alu Cab was heavily represented there amongst the attendees, as an ACCC owner I was happy to see this.
Epic filming! It’s very motivating
One of the best overlanding videos I have ever seen. The footage, the views, the trails. Amazing stuff man
Absolutely loved this video, however I did want to recommend something I often see in CO. You came upon a ton of downed trees that were already cut, instead of leaving them narrow, it would only take a minute per tree to push them a bit off to the side. I like to budge cut ones with my tires if they are positioned correctly.
Your kid is absolutely adorable happy dude! Love your videos. Good luck to you and your family!
The color on the Tundra looks amazing
Rad
Pack your trash out people. FFS. Nobody wants that.
We love doing this trail (Four Peaks Rd). It’s an easy, leisure trail.
This is fantastic!!
Love that you left the UPS truck in this! That’s hilarious 😂 👍 Enjoy every moment with your son, you’ll blink and he’ll be a grown man. 👍👍👍👍
and how to reach our DC on a 4runner ?
I was born and raised in Idaho. Left for quite a bit to live different places but came back and I'll never leave. We don't really ever leave the state to do stuff. We used to get almost zero exposure as a state and were just fine letting Utah and Colorado get the crowds. Things are changing a little bit as more people are discovering what we have in the Spud state but it never ceases to amaze me how there is zero chance that I will be able to explore all of the back country, mountains, lakes, rivers, etc. in my lifetime. I've tried, believe me, but these channels help me get to places I may never get to.
Beautiful drone footage! You don’t need to air down your tires just because you’re on a dirt road. Only air down when you need the extra traction.
No way! Airing down drastically improves the ride and reduces wear on suspension components.
I love how huge those paper maps are
What a great video! 👍
Looks like you have a camping buddy for life.
I certainly hope so!
Noticed you had a nice clear top case for the baby diapers and wipes, what case are you using? My wife and I just started overlanding this year and we have an 18 month old that we’re trying to plan for and that looks like a solid idea!
Awesome! That’s just a Milwaukee Packout case that happens to mount to my seat delete. I have a small zip up pouch that holds about 8 diapers, wipes, etc. that I keep in the AluCab and refill as needed.
@@RevereOverland thanks man I appreciate it! We just hit our first trail yesterday with the new rig just trying to get a few things hammered out for the longer trips.
Little man is going to be a giant. Glad you include him in the videos. Keep showing him the way!
He’s growing like a weed!
I’m looking at getting On X off road maps, do you still offer the discount code and then.
Yes! Revere20 or use the link in the description
Thank you, $99.00 a year is steep for someone that only does it on the weekends. And can you use it like a GPS, like Google maps?
@@Jc-bo1uu the $35 plan is the one to go with unless you're outfitting a vehicle. The $99 plan has massive discounts on things like Warn winches, Midland Radio, and Maxtrax. It has thousands of recommended routes on there or you can create your own. It displays a little like Google Maps, and you'll have that line from the recommended trail or that you created to follow, but it doesn't give you step by step guidance.
The play cookware moment melted my heart. What a great dad
Thanks!
What kind of solar panel and charger controller are you using on the hood of your truck? Thanks.
It’s a Cascadia 4x4 panel. It’s incredibly expensive, not particularly efficient, and is delaminating. I do not recommend it!
You should hav brought a gold pan with you.
Loved the UPS truck but best of all your son and his laughing! ❤️ Loved the video!
Thanks! It keeps me entertained too
Utah might be my next trip.. ive only ever been to the Paria area.
Those are not trails...they are maintained roads.
Trail (1) : a track made by passage especially through a wilderness (2) : a marked or established path or route especially through a forest or mountainous region
Right before you reach the summit there's a right turn seems like your going back west and it turns into a small forest. Good place to camp. Beautiful when it snows
That’s awesome! I saw the roads heading along the top and thought they’d make for some good exploring
It sure how I feel about this one. if this is posted close to when you took the trip then you were dealing with 100+ temps. I have hiked Arizona for over 54 years. Things can go bad real quick. I won’t say anything more, but be wise.
It was around 100°, but not a problem. We had shade and 17 gallons of water.
Your boy is already a great traveler! It's great to see boys and fathers. You are both so lucky! Like everyone else, I loved the UPS water crossing. Every time I see a UPS driver I thank them for their service, LOL. On X must have a huge affiliate budget because all the influencers are on board. Apps like On X and Gaia are great if your travels are largely pre-scripted and you can download all the maps you need for your route. If you live out on the road as I do, wander freely, and rarely pre-script anything, more often than not you end up with no maps at all. No one ever mentions this tiny detail. I actually signed onto Gaia because of a glowing review by another influencer that I trusted. I tried both apps and dumped them both in favor of Garmin Tread. No, it doesn't have all the wonderful features, but the one BIG feature it does have is that no matter where I go, I have preloaded maps.
He loves it! I’ve tried Garmin, but it wasn’t for me. The preloaded maps are nice and the way it works with the Power Switch, emergency comms, and Bluetooth cameras is really neat. That being said, you could buy a tablet and download the entire US map from OnX or Gaia for the same price. It’s not something I consider much, since I have Starlink running on my truck!
@@RevereOverland Well, I tried to download a large section of just Utah for a trip I was planning. It was about 1/4 of the state and I think 3 or 4 layers. Have you ever tried to do that? After about 6 hours it said "download complete". What it didn't tell me is that it had throttled the resolution due to the file size. When I tried to open it, all I had was a blurry mess. If not for a few paper maps on board, I would have had nothing. Yeah, my bad for not verifying what I had. I really got blindsided. I didn't have Starlink at the time. I do now, but it's just not how I want to spend my time when I'm out. Again, I know that these downloaded apps have advantages too. I'm not an advocate for any of these utilities. Garmin has it's issues too. This is just my experience.
@@davids.4760 yeah each to their own! I have Starlink running on the truck roof, so it just updates as I go!
This is not a solo trip, there's a whole other human being with you 😤
“Solo parenting” in the desert mountains doesn’t quite have the same ring to it!
Cool, you are able to bring your son on your adventures
He loves it
Now I've seen everything. A UPS van on an overlanding track. Proof they deliver everywhere. 😁
Lol! That was actually the main road to the town back there, which is weird. I didn’t catch it on video, but there was a car carefully going through too.
7:13 amazing lol!
Lol
Love the 4 peaks trail! Great video
Yeah it’s a great one!
lol do it while you can.. at this age, they will sit through anything… just a pet basically. Once they can verbalize… they won’t want to sit through a long car ride.. and no.. kids don’t care about “scenery” out the window 😂
I hope he continues to enjoy it, because he’s stuck with it until he can drive himself!
Did you ever find a way to install a Maxair fan on your Alu-Cab? Never mind..I just saw what you did!
There’s a way, but I didn’t like it. I also decided I didn’t want a weak plastic on the roof - if I broke it on a branch I’d have all the dust and water coming in to my bedding!
What a beautiful father son outing!
We both really enjoyed the trip!
How many miles so far on the Tundra? Can we get a review/reliability update?
65k with no mechanical problems
Children's car seat that rotates for safety ? wonder how all the billions of people on earth survived childhood... 😄and the cars back then had waaaaay less of all them ridiculous electronic 'safety' devices of which the majority have just been developed to keep us dull and make us avoid to use our brain and intuition. There is so much to see out there. Activating our senses and curiosity is so important, especially at young age. Just looking at the back seat is pretty dull and as a result I dare to say, keeps life dull. But I guess you sort of got the message from your cute little boy's joyfulness laugh. Going to D-Land... be sure to keep your eyes on your precious little boy as lots of children tend to go missing at that location every day. 🍀 Thanks for taking us along and thanks for your great videos 👍
Not only is it the law that babies are rear facing, but rear facing car seats save countless lives. Babies died in wrecks “back then”.
So cool. Triangulate the fire point. Poor park. That sucks. Wonderful video y’all.
Such a cool happy kid. I’m looking forward to your adventures with him as he grows up.
I am too!
